Social Media Success – Celebrity Edition

Do the names Vin Diesel and Kevin Hart ring a bell? If not, they likely will real soon.  Both of these guys have achieved blockbuster success this summer thanks to their understanding of the power of social media.

Vin Diesel took his Facebook fans comments to heart when they asked for the revival of one of the most popular characters in the Fast and the Furious franchise. Soon enough fans across the globe rejoiced seeing the fierce Letty back on screen in Fast and Furious 6.

Kevin Hart, no stranger to social media himself, used both Facebook and Twitter in marketing his new movie and graciously accepted fan feedback.  Let me Explain, his newest docu-comedy, is experiencing record success now on it’s 4th week in theaters.

What they both had in common was the ability to make the social media experience personal with their fans, making them a part of the process. By engaging themselves personally (they both manage their own social media profiles), involving the fans, and actively listening they have been able to take their brands to levels many celebrities only hope to achieve.

To me, they exemplify what most brands and businesses fail to understand about social media:

In the end, it is a SOCIAL medium.
